The quartet was founded in October 1994 during studies at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the class of doc. Václav Bernášek (Kociánovo kvarteto). It then continued during two years of postgradual studies on Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vien under prof. Günter Pichler and prof. Thomas Kakusky (Alban Berg Quartet).
The ensemble got a number of awards in international competitions, works together with a fair share of local and foreign solists and chamber music ensembles.
The quartet plays periodically on stages in Europe, Asia and America.
Members of the ensemble also take part in other chamber music and solo projects. They are members of Czech philharmonic, orchestra FOK and work in the field as teachers.
The ensamble also does variety of other stuff, one of which is cooperation with singer Janek Ledecký in the form of Christmas concerts.
M.Nostitz quartet has its name from year 1996 with a kind permission from countess Mathilde Nostitz - Rieneck, whose kin belonged in 18th and 19th century to big patrons of arts.
